Jennifer Lopez returns to dance roots
This dancing-on-TV thing is really catching on. Now even Jennifer Lopez is sticking a toe back into it.

The artist formerly known as J. Lo was here Thursday to talk to critics about "DanceLife," an eight-week reality show that will premiere on cable next week (9:30 p.m. Monday, MTV). Jennifer Lopez, who began her career as one of the Fly Girls on Fox's "In Living Color" and a backup dancer for Janet Jackson, will produce the series and appear in the first episode and one other one.
Dancing "was my first love - sweating all day with a big bag on my shoulder, going from class to class and audition to audition," she reminisced. "I did that for years, and I loved it."
The show will follow six young dancers, with varying amounts of experience, as they brave blisters and rejection while competing for jobs on music videos, in Gap ads and beyond. Among the six are a former Las Vegas showgirl, an ex-baseball player, a former member of the Pussycat Dolls and a native of Nigeria who danced in the Prince video "Black Sweat." The show will also feature guest shots by Ashlee Simpson, Nelly Furtado, Omarion and the Pussycat Dolls.
Last year, Jennifer Lopez produced a UPN drama, "South Beach," which came and went in a matter of weeks. From that flop, "I learned that I had to be more hands-on, that I really had to get in there," she said. "You learn as you go."

The actress and Grammy-nominated singer has kept a relatively low profile since her marriage three years ago to singer Marc Anthony. That marks a big change from the years when the tabloids couldn't get enough of her relationships with P. Diddy and Ben Affleck. "It was a choice," she said of the change. "My life had become uncomfortable, and I decided that I needed to take a look at that and my responsibility in that. I wanted to find a way to pull back . It was an adjustment and a compromise, but I found a way to to it.
"You don't go out as much, you choose different places to go. If you want to be in the magazines you can, and if you don't you don't have to be. I chose to go a little bit underground and work on some things behind the scenes, some passion projects of mine."

Jennifer Lopez, who wore a close-fitting gold minidress and matching stiletto pumps, said she was a fan of the two reality shows that have brought dancers into the spotlight, aABC's They could be starving, they could not have booked a gig for six months, but they'll keep doing it. That's one of the beautiful things about dancers. They're not looked at as artists, who want to stretch themselves, who if they have a great class kick their legs a little higher that day, but they aqre. "They do it for love. That may sound as corny as it comes, but it's true."

Asked if she ever goes out dancing with Anthony, the former Fly Girl said: "We don't. We're homebodies. We're not big club people anymore. I had my day."

Jennifer Lopez and Carrey nothing in common with Scientology
Jennifer Lopez and Jim Carrey laughed off hearsays their friendship with Tom Cruise is proof a growing interest in his Scientology religion. Witnesses tell the New York Post that Catholic-raised Jennifer Lopez was slowly introduced to the controversial religion by her pal Leah Remini, who stars in US comedy show “King of Queens”, while Carrey is taking introductory courses in the religion, according to Contactmusic.
The media were surprised last month when Cruise and new wife Katie Holmes invited Jennifer Lopez, her husband Marc Anthony, Carrey and his girlfriend Jenny McCartney to their Italian wedding, as the “Mission: Impossible” star was never known to socialize with the quartet. Cruise and Holmes have socialized with Jennifer Lopez and Anthony on at least three occasions in the past two weeks.
Jennifer Lopez and Anthony’s representatives insist Scientology isn't their common interest, as saying: "I have no knowledge of this, but I probably wouldn't have a comment on it if I did."
