Jennifer Lopez boosts Aids auction
Jennifer Lopez has helped raise 6.7 million dollars for charity at a Cannes Film Festival auction.
The Back-Up plan actress tried to tempt the audience to drive up the bids on about 10 luxury lots, including a gold-plated bottle of champagne and a monkey-shaped pendant in diamonds and gemstones. Chris Tucker and designer Karl Lagerfeld also tried to encourage bidding at the Cinema Against Aids benefit. Guests at the star-studded event included actress Naomi Watts, Paris Hilton, Giorgio Armani, Naomi Campbell and Mick Jagger. The evening's entertainment was provided by punk icon Patti Smith and Mary J Blige, who captivated the crowd with her acapella rendition of Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven. Russell Crowe and Tom Ford were among those who took to helped lead the auction. Following a confusing technical description of the six-litre bottle of Dom Perignon, Michele Williams told the crowd: "If you know what that word is, you're rich enough to buy it." The champagne fetched 80,000 dollars. Other high-fetching lots included a day with former US president Bill Clinton, which went for 220,000 dollars, and a flight in a fighter jet, which reached 170,000 dollars. Proceeds from the event go to the American Foundation For Aids Research (amfAR), a non-profit organisation that supports HIV/Aids research. Last year, the event brought in just 4.5 million dollars - roughly half the money raised in 2008. Posted on 21 May 2010
Jennifer Lopez: 'I'm not competing with Beyoncé'
Jennifer Lopez has admitted that she doesn't feel that she is in competition with other female popstars.
The 40-year-old singer, who released her first album in 1999, also said that she will not change herself because of younger artists. Speaking to You, Lopez said: "I love all the girls out there now - Beyonce, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Pink - all of them. I don't feel in competition with them. "I just want to be me. And that's always been good enough." Posted on 17 May 2010
Jennifer Lopez to judge US talent
Simon Cowell is lining up Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony to be judges on his new US talent show. The 50-year-old music mogul is launching an American version of his hit UK singing contest The X Factor next year. He is currently choosing the celebrity judging panel and is said to be keen to include a married couple.
At the top of his list are pop star Jennifer and her husband Marc Anthony, who is also a singer, or Mariah Carey and her rapper husband Nick Cannon. Simon is also rumoured to be considering Paula Abdul, who was a popular judge on American Idol before she quit last year over an alleged pay dispute, Christina Aguilera, Jamie Foxx and UK singer Cheryl Cole, who stars in the British version of the show. "Simon needs diversity on the panel if the US X Factor is going to be a big smash," a source told British newspaper The Daily Mirror. "Paula Abdul seems like a given which leaves three slots. "He thinks J.Lo or her hubby would be fantastic additions so it could be bad news for Cheryl." Posted on 14 May 2010
Beauty tips from Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez recommends wearing blusher to help feel healthier. The singer-and-actress always relies on the cosmetic to give her the glow she needs and uses a pinky-peach shade by Nars to complement her olive skintone.
She said: "I love blusher and the one that works best for my light olive skintone is called Orgasm by Nars. The name says it all, doesn't it? It's a shimmery, pinky-peach shade that gives me a glow, which makes me feel and look healthy." The mother-of-two is famed for her curvy figure and while she can have the pick of any designer she wants, she really likes the fit of outfits by Versace. She said: "It's hard for me to pick out a favourite designer or dress, but I am partial to Versace. I love the way Versace makes me feel. At the Grammy Awards this year, I wore this silver minidress, which had a long white chiffon column layered over it. It was more comfortable than it looked." Despite being a very wealthy woman, Jennifer still gets a buzz out of window shopping. She told new! magazine: "It sounds crazy but I love to window shop. My favourite stores on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue. I can spend hours looking at the new collections in Fendi, Tiffany & Co and Louis Vuitton. I used to do it when I didn't have money and it reminds me of how far I've come." Posted on 14 May 2010
Jennifer Lopez Scarfs Down Fatty Foods & Still Maintains Her Figure
Actress Jennifer Lopez is known around Hollywood for her assets that won't quit. When asked about how a woman can maintain a Jennifer Lopez-type body, interviewers were surprised to find out that Jennifer Lopez is not on any on-again/off-again low carb diet. Instead Jennifer Lopez allows herself to indulge in fatty foods from time to time. Here's what she said:
"Just like anybody I try to watch what I eat – there’s no big science to it, which is what sucks. One of the good tricks is to have a goal – for me it may be getting in shape for a video shoot. The other is portion control. I love to eat everything and you pretty much can – a little piece of something fattening is not going to kill you. It’s when you eat the whole box that it’s going to kill you.” Jennifer Lopez – who has two-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with husband Marc Anthony – also says she’s never felt pressure to be a size zero and has always been confident about her sexy curves. Jennifer Lopez said, “I was always very comfortable with who I was. I’ve never looked at myself in a negative way.” When Jennifer Lopez first became a worldwide star, a lot of attention was given to her shapely behind but she insists she never paid too much attention to the stories, even when it was rumored she had insured it for $1 million. Jennifer Lopez added to Marie Claire magazine, “I thought that story was funny. In fact, we traced that story, and that was a rumor that started in London. “But I was honestly at that time was in such a work fog I didn’t even notice. Now that I’ve had time to sit I appreciate and love everything in a different way, and I think that’s because of the kids too. I just think of life in a different way: back then it was just about the grind.” Posted on 14 May 2010
Jennifer Lopez goes "Overboard"
Jennifer Lopez is in talks to star in the remake of the romantic comedy "Overboard."
The 1987 movie, which starred Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and was directed by Garry Marshall, centered on a snooty, spoiled woman who falls off her yacht and is taken to the hospital by a local, morally challenged carpenter. When she wakes up with amnesia, he convinces her she is his wife, thereby getting a free housekeeper for his four boys. Adam Cooper and Bill Collage worked on the current script, as did Leslie Dixon. Will Smith is producing the Columbia Pictures project with his Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter. Jennifer Lopez, who hasn't appeared in a movie since 2006's "El Cantante," next stars in the romantic comedy "The Back-up Plan," which opens April 23. Posted on 25 Mar 2010
